Cat Urine Removal – A Tough Job
Most pet owners have at one point or another been faced with dealing with pet urine removal. Of all of the pets, cat urine is perhaps one of the hardest to eliminate. There are several strategies to be used when attempting cat urine removal. One of the most difficult things about cat urine is that they do not urinate on floors and carpets alone.
They will go wherever they think appropriate and for a variety of reasons. They may urinate because of a disturbance in the home or because their litter box needs to be cleaned. They may even urinate because they are marking their territory.
Cat urine removal is something nobody looks forward to. If you have ever walked into a home where the cat has urinated you would know that smell right away. Cat urine does not just sit on the top of the surface, but sinks into the surface. This having been said there are a few things that can be done to get rid of the cat urine.
The first step in the process is finding the source of the smell. It only takes a very small amount of urine to create a strong odor, making it difficult to find. You may have to get down on your hands and knees and sniff around a bit.
Once you find the source of the smell you will want to press down on the spot with paper towels to remove it. If the spot is no longer wet, get it damp again before starting. Blotting the spot with pressure repeatedly should start to remove the urine.
Next, you will want to apply a mixture of vinegar and water. Using two parts of warm water one part white vinegar is the preferred mixture for cat urine removal. Use this to scrub the area. If the stain is on carpet you will want to follow this up by using some clean water to clean the area up and then put a good amount of baking soda to the stain. Using a brush you should work the area with the baking soda and let it sit for as much as overnight before vacuuming up.
This is just one technique for cat urine removal. There are also several over-the-counter products that you can purchase to help you with this problem. Remember that cat urine needs to be removed completely to ensure that the cat does not urinate in the same location again.
