The Art of Deodorizing Your Carpet With Baking Soda

Over some time, cooking and home life, especially if you have pets tend to soil and dirty your carpets. Not only that the carpet itself starts emanating odors which can be particularly unpleasant. Perhaps as you are all day within that environment, you may not be able to smell the carpet, but visitors will no doubt be sensitive to the smell.

When you call in professional carpet cleaners they will cleanse your carpet and also deodorize it. Most of the people who clean carpets professionally recommend vacuuming as the most effective method of keeping a carpet clean. Vacuuming regularly increases the longevity of the carpet as well.

It is highly effective to deodorize carpets. It is powerful as a household cleaner but is also very useful in absorbing odors from grubby and reeking carpets. Most commercial carpet deodorizers tend to be highly fragrant and leave behind an annoying sweet smell. A generous helping of baking soda leaves carpets smelling fresh and squeaky clean all year round.

How to Use Baking Soda
Use a shaker jar to disperse, as it tends to clump and cover your carpet corner to corner in a systematic manner. Begin in one corner of the room and liberally sprinkle the baking soda on the carpet. Try and cover about 3-by-3-foot sections at a time. Make sure the entire carpet is covered so you can barely see the color of the carpet through the powder.

Using a toothed brush or broom or even a wide-toothed comb, brush it into the carpet so that it sinks into the fibers. Work meticulously so that the maximum amount of soda is absorbed and seeps into the carpet.

Let it sit on the carpet for a few hours. Try to limit activities where the carpet is covered by soda. Constantly walking on it will lessen the effect the baking soda will have. Now, vacuum your carpet thoroughly. Start by working on one small section of carpet at a time, going over it in one direction and later at a 90-degree angle to extract the powder from deep within the carpet fibers.

Several organic cleaning solutions are odor-free. However, if you like to use a deodorizer in case your house has pets, use any of the natural deodorizers which are great at limiting and neutralizing odors around the house and keeping your home smelling nice and fresh. You could choose from lemon, cherry, and other such deodorizers.
