Getting Rid of That Dog Pee Smell
Getting rid of dog urine from carpets is a big problem many people have faced. No matter what age dog you have, accidents are bound to happen. If you are trying to potty train a puppy, dealing with accidents could be a daily occurrence.
There are many different methods of removing dog urine from carpets. Some methods only mask the odor and leave your house still smelling funky and musky. There are also many expensive products on the market to remove dog pee but none seem to live up to their hype.
So what should you do to remove dog pee from the carpet?
If you have discovered some dog urine in the carpet, the first thing you should do is grab a towel and lay it down on the wet spot. Step on the towel. Put a shoe on first though. The pressure of your weight will help the towel absorb the dog’s urine. If you would rather not use a towel then grab a bunch of paper towels and do the same thing, place them on the wet spot and step on it with your foot.
Whatever you do don’t leave the urine spot to sit. This is the worst thing you can do as it will smell up your house fast and the smell of the dog urine will encourage your dog to pee there again.
There are carpet shampoos specially designed to remove pet odors, this includes urine. These shampoos go into a carpet cleaner. This is a tedious task but will have your house smelling fresh.
If you don’t have a carpet cleaner you could rent one.
Commercial cleaning is another option. Look for coupons in your local paper. You can also call the carpet cleaning companies and ask if they have any specials going. If business is slow, you can get a great deal on cleaning a single room or your entire house.
If you are still potty training your puppy and having frequent accidents, one way to get rid of the urine smell is to use a carpet-powered freshener formulated to cover up pet odors. This is simple to do. Sprinkle the powder on your carpets. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes or according to package directions and then vacuum up. This method of getting rid of the dog urine smell is more of a cover-up and will have to be repeated as needed.
